A little art to spice up your Monday…
I was visiting New York City for a hot minute this past September and spied Barbara Kruger’s work littered among the top, sides and on the pavement of some abandoned warehouse buildings. I thought maybe she got lucky in scoring some prime real estate (a-la Banksy style) to showcase her art work or as it turns out was for a future project for the community.  In this specific piece, her texts acknowledge the neighborhood’s shifting identity.
Barbara Kruger’s iconic, text-based work has appeared at the Whitney Museum of American Art more than once. Now, it’s part of the “Whitney on Site” installations designed to create excitement around the site of the Whitney’s future building in New York’s Meat Packing District. As part of her 2000 show at the Whitney, Kruger wrote: “I work with pictures and words because they have the ability to determine who we are and who we aren’t.”
